Colnago Mexico 1986
The Colnago Nuovo Mexico was introduced in 1982. Besides the Colnago Super, it's one of the most iconic models that Colnago ever built. You could say that the Colnago Super and the Nuovo Mexico don't really differ that much from each other, they use the same tubes and geometry. However, nothing could be further from the truth. Ernesto Colnago found out that crimping the tubes of a frame would stiffen up the frame without adding weight. In 1982 he applied this technique for the first time and it worked! I bought this bike a few years ago in Tilburg, a city close to the Belgian border, unfortunately I can no longer remember who it belonged to. The bike is in a good, used condition. It has some patina here and there, but nothing really disturbing. The chrome is still in a good condition. The fork has been rechromed. The frame itself is made out of stiff and reliable Columbus SL tubes, and has a lot of pantographes. Everything here is period-correct. Campagnolo provides the Chorus groupset and hubs. Tubular Wolber rims, a Gimondi Colnago saddle, and a pantographed Colnago stem make this bike feel truly special.
