Plum Vainqeur 60's Trackbike
Another rare bird for sale! This is a late 60's Belgium built Plum Vainquer. I bought it a few years ago in Ghent where these bikes were also produced at the time. According to the man I bought it from, this bike belonged to former Belgian pro cyclist Gilbert Desmet. He used this track bike in the Six Days of Ghent in the famous Velodrome "Kuipke".
Plum is a Belgian brand that still exists. Right in the center of Ghent, on the Nederkouter, behind a small facade is a huge shop. What once started with a small workshop is now one of the larger bicycle stores in Ghent. Until the 1970s, bicycles were also manufactured in the small workshop. Besides a shop it was also a kind of rendezvous point for the English-speaking riders in Ghent. The regular mechanic in the store was an Englishman wo was good friends with former pro Alan Peiper.
Plum track bikes are rare, especially this one I'm selling here, since it is completely original. Even the handlebar tape is still original from the 60s! The bike is still in a good condition, considering its age. The parts are still in an very good shape, the frame itself has some patina, but the paint and the decals are the original ones and that's what counts here. The bike is furthermore equipped with the best parts that were available in those days. A true masterpiece for a every vintage trackbike collector!
